Welcome …

Welcome to something2ponder

I’m an early baby boomer. Australian to the core. I’ve watched the world change. Now I have extra time to think about what I’ve seen, and what I’m seeing now. More time to read and research.

I don’t claim expertise in anything in particular. Yes, I have a couple of dusty old university degrees on the wall, seen big business from the inside, been a business entrepreneur for 30+ years, raised capital, employed 1000+ people in a dozen or more countries, dealt with lawyers and governments, travelled, watched TV and read a lot. I rode the IT boom/bubble that burst in 2000. Made a bit and lost half of it: so I understand risk and acquired some wisdom.

So, if you want to, join my journey to find something2ponder.

Ideas come from thinking. Actions come from ideas. As a species we need action, lot’s of it. But we need to start at the beginning: to ponder.

I’ll tackle all sorts of things:

  • government; politics; democracy
  • economics; land, labour and capital; technology; markets
  • the planet; population; resources; climate
  • why do people do what they do?
  • and other interesting stuff

If you agree with me, tell someone else. Forward a link. The more people think and talk about what’s really going on, the more likely we’ll set a different course. And, on all sorts of things, I think that’s exactly what we need to do.

If you don’t agree with something, that’s fine too, but check around carefully and make sure you aren’t:

  • trapped in the “optimism bias”: that’s a characteristic of most of us
  • a victim of “group think”: many folk are
  • short on knowledge of the facts: that’s all of us – some more than others
  • confused between facts and opinions: opinions, asserted as facts and repeated often enough, start to sound like facts
  • maybe even just a little bit deluded
